Laguna Beach, CA (September 17, 2024) — Fisher House Southern California (FHSC) is proud to announce the receipt of a $100,000 grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. This generous gift will enable FHSC to expand critical services to veterans and military families in the Inland Empire who require temporary lodging while receiving care at distant medical facilities or while supporting loved ones undergoing care.

The grant will directly support Fisher House Southern California’s mission to provide a “home away from home” for families of military service members and veterans. These families often travel long distances to receive medical care and need a safe, supportive place to stay close to their loved ones.

“We are incredibly grateful to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for this generous grant,” said Hilary Zappin, Executive Director of FHSC. “This funding will allow us to continue providing essential lodging and support services to families in the Inland Empire, ensuring they can be together during some of the most challenging times in their lives.”

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has a longstanding commitment to supporting the needs of military and veteran families, especially those in underserved regions like the Inland Empire. This partnership will help Fisher House Southern California meet the growing demand for temporary housing as more military families and veterans in the area seek care at facilities such as the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System.

“At San Manuel, we believe in the importance of supporting communities in need,” said Lynn Valbuena, Chairwoman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. “We are proud to partner with organizations like Fisher House Southern California, who share our commitment to empowering families and ensuring they have access to the care and resources they need.”

This grant marks an important milestone in expanding Fisher House Southern California’s impact in the region, allowing more veterans and military families to stay close to their loved ones during their healthcare journeys.
