Celebrating Nurses Appreciation Week with Fisher House Southern California

With the support of our generous donors, Fisher House Southern California (FHSC) was honored  to show our gratitude and respect for the remarkable caregivers who provide healthcare for our active duty and veteran servicemembers and their families during this much-deserved Nurses Appreciation Week! To honor them, FHSC provided ice cream and food for the nurses at the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Loma Linda, Long Beach, and San Diego, as well as for the nurses and corpsmen at U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Commands, San Diego and Camp Pendleton. More than 800 VA and Navy staff members participated in these events, enjoying soft serve ice cream, burritos and sandwiches all funded by FHSC donors.

Nurse Appreciation Week takes place every year on May 6 and ends on May 12, which was Florence Nightingale’s birthday as well as the date the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps was established in 1908. The American Nurses Association (ANA) encourages everyone to celebrate this week across the country with recognition programs and other means of support. We at FHSC are so grateful to have been able to give back and help recognize the service of our wonderful nurses and corpsmen.
