Dear Friends,
I’d like to share the story of Chris Louie, a Marine veteran who served in Afghanistan between 2008 and 2012. During his deployment, Chris led his fire team through dangerous terrain and even saved the life of a fellow Marine, allowing him to return home and continue his role as a father. Like many who have served, Chris understands that the impact of service reaches far beyond the battlefield.
When Chris visited the Fisher House at the VA Long Beach Medical Center, he experienced what thousands of families before him have also felt — a true home away from home. From kitchens filled with shared meals to the simple comfort of a warm welcome at the door, Fisher House is where families find strength while their loved ones receive care — always at no cost, for as long as needed.

This year, VA Long Beach opened a new inpatient and outpatient mental health facility to meet urgent needs of veterans. Families staying at Fisher House are often there to support loved ones receiving critical care. Having Fisher House right on campus ensures that no veteran faces this journey alone — their families can be present, supported, and cared for too.
Nearly ten years ago, I was honored to help my dear friend, the late Congressman Steve Kuykendall, bring the Long Beach Fisher House into existence. As we approach this anniversary, I am reminded every day of the lives forever changed inside those walls. Today, Fisher House Southern California proudly supports not only this home, but also the Fisher House at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and two Fisher Houses at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Together, these four homes provide comfort and care for thousands of families each year.
As a Veteran of the United States Navy, I’ve always held a deep respect for the sacrifices made not only by those who serve, but also by their families. That is why I believe so deeply in the mission of Fisher House Southern California. I invite you to join me in supporting this important work so that no family faces their challenges alone.
