Clark My father, George Clark, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4 Radio/Teletype Operator with the First Cavalry’s 15th Medical Battalion. Stationed far from home in Flagstaff, Arizona, he held secret clearance for his communications work—supporting critical military operations with quiet skill and dedication. He carried both duty and strength with him—qualities that would define not just his service, but the health battle he would face decades later.

When he was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and deemed inoperable, our world turned upside down. We traveled from Flagstaff, Arizona, to the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System — clinging to little more than hope, faith, and the weight of uncertainty. In the photo, he holds a sign showing the distance from Vietnam to Flagstaff, a quiet but powerful reminder of how far he had already come—and how far we still had to go.

We were also grieving the recent loss of my mom to breast cancer and unsure how we would manage the emotional and financial toll of his treatment. But then we found Fisher House Southern California.

Although there is no Fisher House currently in the Inland Empire, the Fisher House Southern California team made sure we had a safe place to stay—arranging hotel accommodations so we could be near my dad throughout his treatment. That act of kindness changed everything.

From the moment we arrived, the team wrapped us in care. They made sure we were supported, comforted, and never alone. The relief was immediate—like half the weight on our shoulders had been lifted.

Through every twist and turn of my father’s treatment, Fisher House Southern California never wavered. They stood by us, offering stability in the midst of chaos. They gave us a home—physically and emotionally. — when we needed it most.

Today, my dad is cancer-free. After many surgeries and several treatments, he is finally on the road to recovery. He is our Miracle.

This Memorial Day, as we honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes, I also remember my mother’s brave battle and thank her—for somehow guiding us to the doors of Fisher House. Because sometimes, miracles are simply the best of people with the most generous hearts.

Fisher House Southern California was our miracle.
And for families like mine, your support means everything.
